It is really important that rowing at this state school continues! It has been a fantastic program which has developed many children to great athletes and people. The added value of having a rowing program at a school is enormous, and LOS has been one of the very few state schools to have this.

It is vital that this state school boat club continues. The life skills that children acquire through rowing are incredibly valuable.

I am signing this petition as many of my friends are ex state school rowers and I am sure that, if they had not rowed as juniors, their lives would be very different today. Rowing gave them the structure and comradeship as a teenager to grow in confidence and feel they are able to achieve things in life. The need to be organised and push yourself physically and mentally are important transferable skills that have opened doors in their careers now. Rowing opened the door to the possibility of going to University (due to scholarships), has created careers for others I know (including as GB athletes and within rowing as coaches for GB and at schools), has given them friendships and networks long into adulthood and a strong foundation of values and pride. Once at University, experience of rowing at school has also allowed them to mix with privately educated students at boat clubs with more confidence and exposed them to parts of society which are otherwise traditionally old boys type institutions. Rowing is also an excellent way to encourage a healthy lifestyle, which, if learnt as a child, is easier to continue as young adults away from home. The experience of attending junior level regattas gives juniors the confidence to socialise with other boys and girls and be away with their friends to achieve a common goal. Being in a boat together forms strong friendships which will last when the boys leave and become old boys.

State school rowing is an increasingly rare beast and needs to be encouraged, not curtailed. Good luck with your campaign

Typical school governors, cutting back and finding the least important thing (in their opinion) to scrap just because they think it is not worthwhile enough. Just let them row and find another solution..

Rowing teaches students so much - teamwork, discipline, perseverance, communication, following a plan, time management, leadership and more. It is so much harder to start a programme than to keep one running. Please listen to all the support.

This is despicable, the boys get so much from rowing. There have been too many cuts to education in London.

Our son has grown in confidence and has become fitter and expanded his circle of friends since he began rowing at LOSBC. Please keep the rowing club for future boys and girls, it is a fantastic experience for them.

Any loss of a school boat club is one too many - Juniors are our future, and rowing is a superb sport for the young.

I urge the govenors to please reconsider their decision to close the rowing programme. Im sure sponsorship will be found to continue this great opportunity for our sons and daughters.

Please reconsider. Rowing is not elitist - it offers all round fitness, team work, resoponsibility, resilience and fun. Rowing offers young people so much.

If the parents are funding this and it is giving the kids joy and something to help develop them, it makes sense.
Sounds like the school should want the team to continue its growing success.
