We need more state schools offering rowing - a sport proven to be associated with excellence and a sport which is pioneering opportunity outreach.

Discipline, teamwork and fitness. All in one go. You MUST not take it away from the boys and girls of LOS.

Understand you face challenges to continue to fund the Boatclub but rowing is a unique sport which develops focus, self-motivation, determination and amazing team skills. Would be a real shame if it were not possible to continue.

The boys have gained so much from working as a team. It has given them confidence and has helped some to overcome problems as a result of the support they have had..

Rowing is a great sport, with unique characteristics, but one that is difficult to start. It would be criminal to stop rowing if funds have been provided

Rowing is a wonderful sport that develops commitment, focus, team ethic, perseverance and personal development. Kids need physical exercise, and having a passion for rowing is a positive energy release and generation. The Thames is a unique recreational environment on our doorstep, and should be used to its utmost extent.

My son, Ben was at the Oratory and whilst he was a very happy pupil, he didn't excel at team sports. Rowing aged 14 was a great sporting experience for him, he (and us, his father was Chairman of the Boat Club) dedicated a lot of time to it and he entered races competitively. He went on to row for the first boat at his college at Durham University and without the opportunity and discipline that the Oratory boat club and his teachers gave him, this wouldn't have happened.

I am a school rowing coach and I have seen at first hand the benefits of rowing for children who are totally turned off by traditional school sports that involve balls. Rowing can literally save some children from the despair of being terrible at sport. It is also a great sport for children with dyspraxia and some learning difficulties. Rowing forces children to concentrate and focus on the moment. Please reconsider your decision because once rowing is gone you offer nothing for children who 'hate' sport.

I have heard many positive comments about Rowing at LOS and why should we compromise on any opportunity for the students to engage in another sport which offers so much.

The principles in rowing (teamwork, hard work, perseverance, focus on high standards) MUST sit at the very heart of the ethos if this Catholic school. As a parent (at other schools) I would much rather my children rowed than played rugby (with its high physical risk from concussion and broken limbs).
