Many of our international rowers - most notably Steve Redgrave - have shown the world that rowing is a sport for all and not just the kids lucky enough to go to a private school. The physical healthiness all rowing kids learn is only part of the story. They also acquire skills that take them through life and help them contribute to the world just as much as private school children - like collaboration, resilience, respect. DON'T take this platform away from them at LOS.

Rowing teaches teamwork, discipline and persistence like no other sport. Skills which become ever more important and any school should be proud to teach!

Rowing teaches skills for life - students benefit not just from taking part in a team sport, but the discipline and health advantages it brings, plus the friendships, last beyond the school years. Shameful that school governors think should be done away with, even in times of education funding cuts.

As a school LOS's role is not only to educate and teach, but to instil in its students commitment, dedication and determination. By abandoning rowing after so many have freely given time and effort and the successes the rowers themselves have achieved, seems to send the message that it is OK to quit. If the funding is available for the next year then use it, many things can change in a year.

It would be a tragedy to lose this unique provision, especially when the boys had been doing so well

Wish I'd had the opportunity to row at my state school, I was begging for it before I went to university. State school rowing is essential to redress the balance of privilege in schools rowing.

How can a school (and its governors) which claims to, “know what’s best for boys”, act with such complete disregard for them? Since when did it become okay for governors of a school to act entirely autonomously?
The rowing programme at LOS has completely changed my son’s outlook to his education and he knows that studying hard (grades, homework, attitude) is his only option to keep his seat in one of the boats; his (excellent) coaches made this very clear. It is upsetting, to say the least, knowing how proud he is to represent his school, when its governors are doing everything in their power to pull the rug from under his, and his friends, feet.
Your rowers are doing you proud, London Oratory. If you bothered to come and see them race just once, against the many, many private and public schools, you’d see what we are talking about.
Now is the time to get down off your pedestal and rethink what it is you’re doing.

Please do not take rowing off the curriculum - the boys have worked so hard and are passionate about rowing - it's such an amazing team sport developing team spirit.
