The rowing club encourages the students to work together as a team, teaching them many fundamental skills that can be carried forward for the rest of their lives. The experience builds confidence and the physical activity in itself is a healthy outdoor pursuit.

Remember the promises of London 2012's legacy . Please don't cut our children's sports . It's so shortsighted.

I believe sporting activities within school should continue as it enhances leadership and team building skills . Both these are paramount in today's life skills.

As Director of Rowing at Durham School I believe it would be a a huge shame if rowing were to cease at the school.

I cannot understand why it is proposed to stop the rowing programme immediately, if funding is in place for 2017/2018. Surely this is a retrograde step, particularly with regard to boys who do not enjoy contact sports - it is a real opportunity for them to learn to be part of a team

As the parent of a 2nd form boy who has greatly enjoyed the oppprtunity to learn to row I ask you to please reconsider and continue to offer rowing as part of the curriculum. It's a wonderful opportunity for the pupils to have the experience of rowing on the Thames together as part of a team. The school is doing well in competitive rowing and it seems the LOSBC has secured the funding for this coming academic year so please allow rowing to continue.

My nephew has so enjoyed taking part in what turns out to be an incredibly successful team. They are a credit to the school and it does feel rather short sighted to end this wonderful sport with so little notice or explanation.

I have a son in the school and another starting soon. This is such a special programme to LOS and has been wonderful for so many boys. The governors should value it, let it continue for another year and let the new Head decide. Once it has gone it is far harder to start again.

My son rows and his confidence was given such a boost. He doesn't do well with ball games. Schools need a variety of experiences, if at all possible continue to fund whilst alternatives are sought.
