As a teacher in a christchurch school I know the importance of youth clubs and how they help both young people and the community they live in - don't be short sighted. Spend money here stops problems later

Taking the lighthouse from Christchurch removes the only centre that inspires young people to be creative. The lighthouse as a community and group have had to fight to provide opportunity for years but through heart, commitment and kindness have managed to provide for young people from all walks of life!

Good Luck with this, I worked for several years as. Youth Worker across Christchurch/Bournemouth then as. Drug/Alcohol worker for Young people, and know that Young People need centres to use and ownership something they know is a safe enjoyable environment.

Our young people need supporting. They need more activities and places to go in the evening - not less. I cannot believe you are even considering closing this down. I wonder what you will build on the site? An old people's home?

The Lighthouse is something special for the young people of Christchurch and really benefits the local community! It would be a huge loss and a massive shame if it goes or a suitable alternative venue isn't found.

I have a lot to thank the lighthouse for with spending most of my teenage years there. The music facilities are like no other for young people-with the most supportive staff opening doors for beginner musicians . It seems unfair to take that away from younger generations.

Save the Lighthouse. Across the country youth centres are shutting down leaving young people without the support that they need at such an important time in their lives. Projects such as this help young people build the foundations for their future.

I write on behalf of the band, State of Undress, in support of this petition.
We believe the loss of the Lighthouse to be a tragic and avoidable mistake for the community. It's work in providing a creative release for our young folk has proven to be an invaluable service, and not one left homeless.

As a young teenager, The Lighthouse was paramount in providing the opportunities for me to thrive and gain confidence by getting involved in the local music community. They provided the means for my band to play our very first gig at the age of 14, as well as a safe place to rehearse and spend time with like-minded people in a supportive environment. I have made lifelong friends through the youth club and it would be a heartbreaking loss to see the club end after so many people have fought to keep it open. A closure of The Lighthouse would be extremely detrimental to young people in Christchurch and the surrounding areas, as well as to the wider community - there is nowhere else to go! It is so important to support creative outlets for young people and we cannot give this one up. The Lighthouse offers invaluable resources such as musical instruments, rehearsal space, recording opportunities, and equipment such as sound, lights and staging for live use that are simply not available or accessible to many young musicians, all within an environment separate from school in which young people can seek help and support for personal problems and concerns. It would be such a shame if this all had to end, as the venue is a fixable problem.
