The lighthouse youth club Is invaluable for the youth of today, to express themselves in a safe environment, to be themselves and be able to explore music, what better way to make friends and have a positive horizon. These young people are the next generation and need us to support their needs!

As a youth worker myself, it's so important that places like this stay open. If we want young people to thrive and flourish without turning to crime or simply wasting their younger years, these places need to stay open.

It will be to the detriment of the younger members of the community if this resource is allowed to close. A lot of good works indirectly supporting the community are done by the volunteers who manage the Lighthouse.

Surely this deserves some funding. Giving young people something wIth a creative focus is better than the consequences of boredom and other likely distractions.

Will be such a great loss to the community if it cannot continue. It has been a great place for young people to go and be creative. So many great bands and musicians have come out of the lighthouse. BCP need to sort this out rather than continually cutting arts and events.

Having now taken the time to read through all the comments, I feel I have to add a second, more full one. The comments, especially from members, past and present, plus their parents, have brought back many memories. I was the local Bobby for many years and was closely involved with the Lighthouse. I too, have seen first hand, the phenominal effect this club has had on youngsters. Not only all the usual Youth Club activities and education, but an extraordinary music scene. It wasn't just about learning instruments, it was forming bands, practicing, performing live, becoming a team and all the camaraderie and friendship that goes with that. Older experienced musicians often stayed on and became volunteers. I loved our Summer Friday burger nights, when we all, Young people, Police, families and friends, would eat, sing and laugh together - there were sometimes some Councillors helping there too!! Let's hope our new Council can find us a new venue, and who knows, maybe next year...................? The burgers will be on me!!

Youth clubs are vital. We are living dangerously if we don't provide safe, supportive places for our young people to meet.

Having been a town centre business for a number of years, it is easy to see the contribution which The Lighthouse has made for young people.

It is clear that provision of youth services such as the Lighthouse play an ever increasing positive role in helping young people by guiding them and helping them to mature in a complex world. To reduce or get rid of such facilities is sheer folly and will only create issues further down the road. Support for the Lighthouse and it’s aims gets my vote!

I really can’t understand this... why take away a safe place for young people to go, pushing them further into danger, when you should be providing them with more places to have face to face contact with real human beings and experience real life and local community. Without the lighthouse, I wouldn’t be who I am today and living the life I live. The powers that be are so out of touch with what’s actually happening to the youth in their local community that it’s actually concerning.

Absolutely vital facility, which cost a great deal of public money to create, and especially needed in view of the housing development planned on the former police station site.
