This cafeteria is wonderful. There aren’t other food options at LAX.

The Terminal 4 Employee Cafeteria has served the AA community at LAX for decades. The availability of the Employee Cafeteria enables AA employees to come to work secure in the knowledge that affordable, fresh, and nutritious food is available to them expeditiously and adjacent to their workspace. Airport restaurants and fast food cater to the needs of passengers. The high prices and long lines found at these establishments render them, in most cases, an unsuitable option for employees who must eat quickly and cheaply, and who then must return to work immediately in order to keep our airline operating. Furthermore, logistics prevent employees from leaving the airport to seek outside food options during their shift or flight sequence. AA management would like all to believe that the elimination of the cafeteria was long-planned and widely-disseminated to AA LAX employees. Nothing could be further from the truth. There were no indications from AA management at any point prior to 2023 that the cafeteria would be closed. Instead, in 2023, employees were suddenly informed that this LAX institution would be replaced with vending machines…vending machines which are nothing more than profit centers for AA selling weeks-old sandwiches; wilted salads and shelf-stable soup at high cost. This decision has severely undermined employee morale in the AA community at LAX. Sharp declines in morale are not good for the company…not good for the traveling public…and not good for the employees themselves.
