This year will be the last year of the Kernel at MHS because the administration does not feel it has any importance to the school anymore. Please help us show that this paper does matter.

Updates

April 9, 2015

The stories shared in the comments illustrate how much this paper has meant to the history of our school. I am currently compiling these experiences to present to the administration as a formal reflection of what we stand to lose. Your dedication to preserving this tradition is becoming the core of our argument.

April 9, 2015

Seeing this many people affirm the importance of The Kernel reminds me that our school history is still deeply valued by this community. This momentum proves that the paper is far more than just paper to those who have walked these halls.

The school newspaper is a place where kids can freely express themselves and give their oppinion on topics. I, along with countless other people enjoy reading the Kernel, and I also think it is important for people to develoup their writing skills. My friend, Trevor Sejnoha, is going to school to become a journalist, and this class has given him an excellent first step in doing so.

School news papers have always been important to all students and families. It is especially important to kids that excell at activities other than sports as the local newspapers cover them like they are the only thing worth publicising. I worked as a reporter on my local school paper and learned allot during my years on the staff and even now use the knowledge I gained. Please reconsider and keep the Kernel!

In my opinion it is sheer foolishness to shut down the Kernel. Why is it when something needs to be cut it is always something academic as apposed to sports? Let this 100 year old school staple stand and inspire more young adults for years to come. Even if the world is becoming digitized we still have a need for journalism!

I worked on the school newspaper, and it was an amazing experience. I feel it helped me in English and gave me confidence in my writing abilities. It would be a shame to see this go away.

This class made a big impact on me. It taught me key writing skills that are valuable in post secondary learning and the work force.

Writing for The Kernel has been the best experience of my high school career. It's the only activity in the school that affects such a large amount of people. When I see the stack of newspapers in the SRB room, they are gone within minutes
