I have been a part of my school's newspaper for 3 years now, and I have gained so many connections and skills. It is very important to keep newspaper and writing in students' lives.

The school newspaper is a place where kids can freely express themselves and give their oppinion on topics. I, along with countless other people enjoy reading the Kernel, and I also think it is important for people to develoup their writing skills. My friend, Trevor Sejnoha, is going to school to become a journalist, and this class has given him an excellent first step in doing so.

Newspaper students work hard and take pride in each edition of the Kernel that they publish.

School news papers have always been important to all students and families. It is especially important to kids that excell at activities other than sports as the local newspapers cover them like they are the only thing worth publicising. I worked as a reporter on my local school paper and learned allot during my years on the staff and even now use the knowledge I gained. Please reconsider and keep the Kernel!

In my opinion it is sheer foolishness to shut down the Kernel. Why is it when something needs to be cut it is always something academic as apposed to sports? Let this 100 year old school staple stand and inspire more young adults for years to come. Even if the world is becoming digitized we still have a need for journalism!

The United States Attorney Preet Bharara of Manhattan, the “Colbert Report” producer Tom Purcell, the Emmy-winning actress Susan Lucci, the film reviewer Gene Shalit, and the top-gun campaign consultant Mark J. Penn, each have something in common. They all started as a high school journalist. Though I was never part of the school newspaper, I always found the class to be very important to the education of its students. The School Newspaper gave students the skills of analytically thinking, clear writing, leadership, teamwork and sensitivity to deadlines, all skills which are traits that are sought after by employers. In fact this class accurately simulates a work environment - because it is a work environment. In addition the school newspaper serves as a place of empowerment. Many students who aren't the macho man or most popular girl in the school have a chance to utilize their creativity and and smarts as a way to have their voice heard. Though the school newspaper won't automatically set you up for a job working for CNN or the New York Times it’s a class that offers you skills that will lead to successes in both college and life.

I worked on the school newspaper, and it was an amazing experience. I feel it helped me in English and gave me confidence in my writing abilities. It would be a shame to see this go away.

Come on MHS let the kids write a paper and develop their journalism skills. Don't take away their opportunity to learn and broaden their horizons.

Writing for The Kernel has been the best experience of my high school career. It's the only activity in the school that affects such a large amount of people. When I see the stack of newspapers in the SRB room, they are gone within minutes
