There are no such things as 'pests', only introduced species which now co-habitate the environment

I think the farmers should use llamas to protect their flocks as has been done in other countries. If the damage to the sheep by the Kea is so bad that poison must be used, I think the added cost of caring for a second type of animal would be worth it. Besides, llama wool sells for more than sheep's wool.
I think the llamas have to be raised with the sheep to make them protective of the flock. Maybe the farmers think this is too much of a hassle.

When I tramped in Arthur’s Pass in 1962 Keas were everywhere very smart and very funny. I just went right around the South Island and did not see one Kea

The trouble with this is, possums have always been a pest. Its been an ongoing problem in NZ but its not like we are short of trees with rainfall and growth either! Possums don't like pine trees, there are a healthy amount of them growing about the place to. Why kill thousands or millions of possums along with other animals which don't need to die in the first place? Possum furs are used as clothing but if the government paid people to trap them and find them and use their furs as clothes then, they might come down in price. There are many unemployed in NZ but no jobs are ever created for something like that. Its better than killing wildlife in the most brutal way wouldn't anyone think first?

It’s shocking to learn that an entire species of life risks being wiped off of the face of the earth. And so I give my up most support for this cause.

1080 needs to be banned and this killing everything except natives will not work - the ecosystem is balanced and targeting certain species upsets the balance - this is madness, cruel and wrong.

Unbelievable to be dropping poison in the name of 'conservation' indiscriminately killing every species that is a ground feeder.

traps seem to be a better solution than spreading 1090 poison by air - beautiful KEa parrots will be harmed.
