Students should have the ability to be learn and be enriched by another culture. The Japanese program has been doing it for years.

These kids have started this program many with the intent to study throughout HS. Pulling it out from under them is just wrong and does affect their progress and learning. You still have to offer foreign language classes. This doesn’t even save money. Do the right thing.

I personally did not take Japanese, but was lucky enough to witness the culture and passion Mr. Wilson cultivates within the classroom. I highly respect the drive and ambition students hold when choosing to take this class. I would hate having my drive and ambition taken and striped away from me. Another signature is a another step towards the betterment of student education and diversity at DV!

Japanese class was a tight knit class: small, but because of that we became close as a family. Never did I regret taking Japanese for 4 years at Deer Valley. I met the greatest people and learned more about the Japanese language and culture (it’s not just about anime y’all). It’s a shame that the school is ignorant and taking away what’s really important. Please please sign and save the program for future DV students!

As an strong admirer of Japanese culture I'm glad that even if my school doesn't have this program there is one that does and I hate that it's being phased out without being given a fair chance.

Being able to learn Japanese language is so rare and special, especially when there are no other high schools around us offer the program. Both of my kids took Japanese for 4 years and both of them got into prestigious colleges. I have been very happy and proud that DVHS has a Japanese language course. Don't get rid of the program, please.

The students in this valuable program have chosen this as their 3 years of language towards their college education. Those in Japanese 1 will be allowed Japanese 2, those in Japanese 2 will be allowed Japanese 3 . This is only for those students already in the program. Antioch’s sister city is Chichibu Japan, the students in this program are worthy future embassadors for this!

The fact that they are getting rid of the Japanese language only after they told Mr. Wilson he needed more students is horrible. Deer Valley is the only school in the area that offers Japanese and it’s one of the main reasons I wanted to go here! Most schools don’t even offer unique classes like Japanese and they don’t give kids the opportunity to pursue the language that they would actually like to take and have an interest in. This also gives those taking Japanese already a disadvantage in getting the 2 year requirements and the stamp of biliteracy, which is something I greatly wanted to get! I want to be able to take Japanese all four years and become comfortable with the speaking and listening to the language and to have a better understanding of the culture, way of life, and the overall people. Taking Japanese away stops me and others from achieving that goal.
