With respect to Town Project 12-17, we the undersigned petition the Town of Greenwich Department of Public Works to:
- Reengineer completely or drop altogether the massive, over-designed, out-of-scale rotary proposed for the front of the Perrot Library
- Retain without material alteration the existing island at Forest and Sound Beach Avenues
- Retain plantings and all mature trees along Sound Beach Avenue affected by the project

Bad idea! A change like this will definitely bring faster traffic, which is not what we need with kids on bikes (my kid) crossing to get to the library. Grew up in this town and have seen many changes. This would not be a good one. People need to be patient and slow down!
This is an over-designed project that would cause more traffic issues than it would solve. Creating a 'T' at Forest and Sound Beach would significantly backlog traffic on both streets. More comment and study is needed here.
Where is the traffic calming project from 2008? That involved the felling of no trees. In the interim, in 2014, a woman driving at high speed left the road, went airborne, and crashed into my house on the corner of Forest and Brown House.
When you hire a traffic engineer, his/her job is only fulfilled by proposing change, however unnecessary. This idea is beyond ridiculous. I have lived in Old Greenwich for more than 30 years, and I still cringe at the white lines blighting our streets due to traffic engineering.
Abandon this design, get the residents of Old Greenwich involved ,, and start putting the word out, that this is a WAY overbuilt plan, in size, scope ,and design which will destroy the entrance to our 1640 village on Long Island Sound.
Thank you so much for your offer! We recently had a meeting with Commissioner Siebert and Peter Tesei. We brought with us the Chair of RTM District 6 and another District 6 member. District 6 is totally opposed to this project as is the OG Association, the Board of Trustees of the Perrot Library, Friends of Binney Park and just about everyone in OG. At the meeting we presented our petition and voiced our strongest objections to the project. Commissioner Siebert said she would take our views into account and come back with an altered proposal at a September public meeting. I think I would like to give her that opportunity before coming on your show. Once I have all the new details, my husband and I would welcome the opportunity to speak. The Garden Club of Old Greenwich supports the preservation of open spaces in the spirit of Helen Binney Kitchel, who founded Binney Park. This massive and disproportionate plan is a desecration of the beautification and conservation values we support. Karen Handal, Old Greenwich
