My entire highschool plan will be screwed up if I don't do IB. I'm a sophomore and I've literally planned out my 4 years at NW. If IB if cut, I will be taking honors bio as a junior

I am currently in my second year of my IB Diploma program and I have to say, IB has allowed me to explore the applications of knowledge we learn rather than just memorizing information for each subject. I strongly hope that SMSD will allow the IB Program to continue.

As residents of the Shawnee Mission School District for 12 years, we have met many thoughtful, articulate young people who are prepared to be leaders at universities, in professions, in civic life and in business. These men and women have grown and developed as students in the IB program. Ending the program would be a mistake that would damage Johnson County and Kansas. Thank you for considering my belief.

The IB program prepared me for immediate advanced work in the humanities at the collegiate level. The mentorship I received on my extended essay, the rhetorical skills I developed in Theory of Knowledge, and the support I received while developing my own academic objectives were formative experiences for what is now my career in professional philosophy; they are also experiences unique to the IB diploma program. Cutting IB would arbitrarily render a story like mine unimaginable. I hope SMSD will continue to equip its graduates with the skills, values, and hopes to freely choose a meaningful life for themselves.

In a world that is becoming more globalized and diverse every day - this kind of education is essential for those who are willing to step up to the challenge. My first child who completed the IB program has thrived at college (finished in 3 years with 2 degrees in an Honors program with a GPA that puts her in the running graduation with distinction) and is getting ready for her graduate level work. These are the kinds of students that Kansas NEEDS to attract businesses to boost this economy. Businesses are looking for well-rounded, adaptable, diverse and globally-minded employees. IB programs are the foundation from which these kind of employees launch. Please Kansas - do not move backwards in providing opportunities for your students; particularly those who are volunteering to work so hard for this achievement.

I am an IB alumnus. I can confidently say that I wouldn't be at this prestigious university without the IB program. I am the only one from the Shawnee Mission School District in my class. When people ask how the public schools are in my area I don't know where to begin. Cutting the IB program will be detrimental to the SMSD reputation. It took a lot of hard work from teachers to establish the program. It would be a SHAME to take it away. The intellectual stimulation outweighs the financial costs. Of the program. For Christ sake, you're the state. Education should be you're first priority.

As an IB Diploma Candidate, I have experienced firsthand the beneficial effects of IB throughout my life. Beyond the more advanced coursework, IB has allowed me the opportunity to participate in different community service opportunities, have fun, and become part of the IB family within my school. The IB is a great program and cutting it entirely is a mistake.

IB was a program that I felt truly changed my learning experience in high school and allowed me to work in ways that prepared me for college far more than the comparable AP classes. The group project orientation mixed with the cross-discipline learning that is often employed in the IB courses helped me gain appreciation for subjects that I never thought I could learn to love and forced me to think in creative ways to solve new problems. Beyond this, the friends I made in the program are my lasting friends to this day and we continue to stay in touch despite being enrolled in universities across the country. Without IB, I would have been far less qualified for college and would have missed out on some of my most cherished memories of high school.

This is THE program. This is the one that lets students explore the world. That teaches them how to think not how to get through school. That prepares them for college. If it gets cut it will be a travesty and it will negatively affect every student who doesn't have the opportunity to be involved in IB.

While I am not an IB student, I know a lot of friends who are. They all tell me good things about the program. This is a program worth saving and a lot of good teachers will be lost if the program gets cut from SMSD.

Please keep IB! I'm not in it but a lot of my friends are and love the teaching style and how differently they approach things.

Some of my friends were in IB and they loved it. Taking it away would be a shame.

Obscene...you increase TONS of programs for non-citizens and non-taxpayers....but you have the nerve to remove an elevated level of education for the students whose parents PAY TAXES????? What the hell is wrong with a centralized federal government ponzi scheme called Dept of Education???? EXACTLY THIS. Give the tax dollars 100% back to the states and abolish those federal criminals. We could triple teacher salaries and keep IB and the arts and get decent food back to our kids.

As someone wanting to pursue a more refined education than what the current AP and Honors classes offer, I am sad to even see this happening. I do realize that it does cost money that the school district doesn't have, but here's a simple solution: Charge a small fee for IB classes.
