Why would you ever want to cut an opportunity for kids to broaden their horizons and gain knowledge?!

It would be a shame to lose such a respected program. It would negatively affect the reputation of the Shawnee Mission School District.

The reason we go to school is so we can learn. The people requesting a higher education than normal classes shouldn't be punished for wanting to learn. Take the money out of less important things

It is abundantly clear how much IB means to not only students in the district, but people throughout the globe who have benefited from the program. The most unfortunate aspect of this whole thing revolves around AP vs IB. We understand that budget cuts are an inevitable reality, but why must it come down to eliminating one of these two programs? You're telling me that the program that inspires learning, analyzing, and exploring the world the most is what is targeted? This program should not come at the expense of poor funding. When explained why IB was being cut, we were told that AP was more valuable due to the college credit. There is one major flaw here. If SMSD wants to continue to create leaders and intellectuals in society, then IB should continue. The purpose of learning and high school is not to go to college; it is much more than that. Although college credit may get you to college, the power of multiple choice runs out there. Unfortunately there is no such thing as career credit. Instead, what allows students to have the upper hand when pursuing goals much more extensive than college is the variety of life skills gained in IB.

I am an IB Diploma senior and the experience has been invaluable to me. Educational has become about multiple choice and skating by, but IB teaches students critical thinking skills. You'd be doing your county a great disservice if you cut this program.

I'm sure we can't afford to pay for it anymore but please don't cut the IB program. Thanks Governor Brownback.

This program is one of the reasons we felt comfortable with choosing a public school vs a private school for our academically strong daughter. It should definitely be continued.

I took the IB program in high school and now being a freshman in college I am extremely grateful for the opportunity IB gave me. It helped me prepare for how difficult classes can be.

This program should be continued in at least two or three schools in SMSD.

Nothing prepared me more for college than IB. It doesn't even compare to AP due to the extensive projects and higher level thinking required in all classes.

The IB program is a wonderful opportunity to help shape students to become worldly, motivated, and very prepared to face college and life ahead. I believe it is very important to keep this unique and wonderful program in the district. Cutting it from the school would truly be a disservice to the students.

As a parent in the NW area this disappoints me. The IB program is an important part of what makes the school fantastic. As a teacher in the IB program, I just want to say to all the current and former students organizing around this issue, I am proud of you. It is my honor and privilege to teach you and to learn from you each and every day. Many of the most profound teaching moments of my career have occurred in an IB classroom. The way you learn to think and to question is so impressive, and will serve you well both in college and in your careers.

Having completed the program in high school, I was extremely prepared for college upon my high school graduation. IB set the standard for my learning, and it showed me how to think critically and gain perspectives.
