What are the reasons for this excellent program to end in SMSD? I'd like to know the decision-making and rationale.

My daughter and nephews have greatly benefited from this program and I have seen their knowledge from this program positively influence their college years. My youngest daughter is currently part of this program and I cannot stress enough how badly I wish all students in the district would be given this opportunity. Budget cuts should not negatively impact a child's education and deny them such a prestige education. It's high time those in charge find solutions to this problem rather than excuses, and work as hard to protect IB as these students are. SMSD is one great district, I'd hate to see it lose IB and its prominence.

While I oversaw many AP programs in my district it was the experience my daughter had with her IB program at Shawnee Mission East that made me a true IB believer. Not only did it develop her thinking and academic skills it enabled her to receive a very generous scholarship from an university because she had received an IB diploma

IB is an exceptional education! My daughters graduated from the Wichita East IB program in 1996 and 2002. I give the IB program credit in helping them become the most incredible and successful women they are today!

The IB program was highly influential in my development as a young adult. It forced me to be well rounded in not just math and science but also English, Spanish, history and psychology. I benefited from having the same teachers and peers for two years. We collectively worked together to improve our understanding of topics and learn from our teachers. IB was the first time I was asked to think critically about problems that I had the skill set to solve but had not necessarily seen before. This helped prepare me greatly for my engineering education and my future career on submarines. In addition the CAS hours encouraged me to seek out opportunities beyond Boy Scouts, orchestra, and sports (track and soccer). I went with 3 friends to play Christmas songs at a retirement home, I joined robotics and joined an arts and crafts club. I don't think I would have done these otherwise. IB helped me become a well-rounded person prepared for college. Thank you, IB, my classmates and teachers that made the experience incredible.

This program became a huge part to my experience in high school. Most of all my good friends, especially from high school, were met through this program. It would be a shame to get rid of this amazing opportunity.

I don't live in your district but I support IB everywhere. I know one of your graduates, and he is proof that this program should be expanded, not eliminated.

I graduated over 27 years ago from the IB program. I can't stress how important the IB program was to my academic development. The program helped pave the way for success at university--undergraduate and graduate school levels. I fully support keeping the IB program so that future generations of college bound students are prepared just as I was.

This program is so helpful for students. It is sad to see budgets cut for smart and gifted kids in the higher level classes and arts/music as we add more and more programs and fund for students at a lower academic levels. Yes, those at the lower level need it, but it is a sign and a trend that is truly disturbing. If you don't offer the higher level curriculum, it is dumbing our future generations down as they have nothing to aim for in high school if they are above average intelligence. Very sad state of our education standards. I guess a C is "good enough." : ((

The IB program is invaluable for the extra learning opportunities it provides high level students. These students are the future of Johnson County, and a major part of its success up to this point. Taking away IB limits their potential.

SMSD has been our choice for our children and now our grandbabies are moving toward the district schools because of quality and opportunity to explore outside the CORE!

As a professor at a selective private undergraduate institution, the students who have come through the IB program are without a doubt the best equipped for the rigors of college. My child is a current sophomore in SMSD and has been looking forward to the IB program for four years. IB is a point of pride for SMSD, and it would be tragic to deny the highest achieving learners the opportunity to make the greatest difference. We want Kansas children to succeed, and IB is a demonstrated path to this success.

Budget cuts should not prevent the future of this country from receiving and internationally standard, world class education. This country is already behind in the international education ranks - depriving our students of the IB program because of MONEY is NOT improving our international image!!!!!!

Please keep the IB program alive at SMNW! My daughter has had a wonderful experience with her IB classes and has learned much more in her IB classes than her AP classes. I would love to see my son in the IB program in a few years. Please don't cut this program and take a wonderful opportunity away from our children.

Ib is a much stronger and integrated program than AP, and it made me such a more intelligent, and well rounded person. I recommend it to everyone looking for the best program in high school.

Students who aspire to be the next generation of leaders should not be penalized because our Governor can't balance a budget. We need to have this program to challenge our super stars to reach higher and become more.

I graduated from SMNW in 2014 with an IB diploma. The IB program enabled me to develop a strong work ethic, it challenged me to think critically and creatively, and it pushed me to seek new opportunities with its CAS hour component. Finally, thanks to the IB program I was accepted to McGill University, the best college in Canada.
