SMSD WOULD BE CRAZY TO GET RID OF THE BEST COLLEGE PREP PROGRAM THAT EXISTS. MY KIDS WENT THRU IT AT WICHITA EAST AND IT HAS SERVED THEM WELL.

Keep Shawnee Mission a district that meets the needs of all students, including those who are ready to advance at the pace allowed by the IB program.

As a former IB teacher from another district, SMSD getting rid of IB would be the beginning of the quick demise of a once great district. Reduce the number of schools and bus kids in- don't eliminate it.

as much as the IB has made me suffer, I support this. The IB has made me a well rounded student and if I get accepted into a university I owe it all to the IB

I recently graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest. I personally was not in the IB program, but i've heard many truly amazing things from it. My friends loved every moment of it, they loved expanding their knowledge. They loved going above and beyond what they would normally do in regular classes. It honestly isn't fair to just resort to cutting out such an amazing program for all students to come.

Former IB Graduate and Alumni of SMNW. International Baccalaureate is a fantastic program that teaches critical thinking skills that are indispensable in college, but at a more appropriate pace and class size. The district should do more to encourage students to sign up for the program, instead of cutting it for low participation.

As a retired public school Art teacher, I'm interested in IB. because my two grandsons have been students in this creative and challenging program. The excellent teachers and stimulating curriculum have benefited them in many ways and will continue to do so in the future. I have watched them become mature, inquisitive and interesting young men. Thank you and please keep IB in the budget!

IB is stressful, difficult, and AP students will never understand the struggle of going through the entire syllabus as a student and memorizing rubrics. But it is a fantastic experience and I would not trade my experience with it for pretty much any other program

I'm currently an IB diploma candidate at SMNW. I have also taken a few AP classes at NW before taking IB, and I feel that IB has helped me far more than AP. Although AP has taught me a large amount of knowledge, it is built to allow us to simply take a test for college credit. IB teaches us to think more philosophically in our subjects, to make our subjects more interdisciplinary, and to give us a more international view by letting us expand our views past Johnson County Kansas. AP is a great program in its own right; however it should not be looked at as a replacement for IB. IB currently prepares students in SMSD for college more than any other program. It is also currently one of a limited number of signature programs in the district, and taking away the IB program would leave Northwest without any signature programs. Higher level courses need to be offered to challenge higher level students, and eliminating IB classes will only narrow the options that students have to challenge themselves and remain academically competitive in an increasingly competitive college applications process. SMSD has always been recognized as a more respectable and prestigious district, and IB is a large part of this. Removing IB will continue to diminish our global image and lower our respectability. With the amount of money and time it takes to receive IB educator certificates and training, it is unlikely that we will be able to recover the IB program in later years. Eliminating the IB program will be an academic loss that will be difficult for the Shawnee Mission School District to recover from.

While I myself never took the class, my younger sister did. She absolutely thrives on knowledge and I have never seen her so animated when discussing her school work than when I bring up IB classes. Taking this sort of enthusiasm for learning and the deeper discussions from future generations is a grave mistake that the children will have to pay for. NOT the ones making such a poor decision.
