I grew up in Christiansburg and have been a Tech fan all my life. One of my first memories at a football game was the Hokie Pokie. This is a great tradition and I will be extremely disappointed if it ends.

One of the reasons Virginia Tech stood out to me when I was a college junior applying to universities was the Hokie Pokie and the overall Hokie Pride on the football field. It stood out from when I first saw it in the 2006 Chik-Fil-A bowl all the way to my 2009. applications. The Hokie Pokie gives visiting bands a sense of camaraderie and joy and boosts the morale of everyone in the stadium because it is a moment of pure childlike hilarity. We shout LETS GO...HOKIES at the beginning and look forward to the Hokie Pokie in the 3rd quarter. The Highty Tighty band bonds with the Marching Virginians and extends the inclusivity to competing schools in a way that no other tradition does. Please do not forgo this piece of Virginia Tech history just for the sake of change. Signed, a proud 2010 grad and former band member.

As a alumni, this tradition should be keep at the home games. I understand starting new traditions but some songs and chants should be kept even if we changed coaches. There is no point in dropping the hokie pokie and replace it with a chant we already do at home games. Hokie Respect goes deeper and includes everything that we do, and I believe the hokie pokie shows our respect for the other team when the other team dances along with the song.
