There are plenty of ways to drum up money, removing the Hokie Pokie at 3rd shouldn't be a part of those efforts. It is possible to do both. The picture attached to the petition says it all. It is a fun experience and includes the other school's band if they'd like to come on the field. This world is too often divided over trivial things. Keeping the Hokie Pokie and the bridge to opposing teams shows everyone in the stadium how to cross the bridge to humanity. Coming together shouldn't always be about tragedy, sometimes it can be about fun.

It makes no sense to remove the Hokie Pokie. It's been a tradition at least since I was a student there. Two kids who graduated, and 3 nephews who were in the MVs (one who can actually DO the Hokie Pokie while playing his tuba) have Hokie Pokied together. I love seeing the HTs and MVs play together, and the opposing bands often join in (it's interesting to see who opts out). Traditions are important. Change for the sake of change is not a good look for Va Tech..

Please don't take away this time honored tradition. Change is good, but please leave the Hokie Pokie in and add the chant into another part of the game for a new tradition!

As the author of the choreography for the Sousaphone dance line, I think the University is missing out on the whole meaning of the tradition. Since 1980, when I wrote this fun dance, countless people have smiled, had fun, and just felt joyful - and tied those feeling to being a Hokie! Not only do the students and Alumni enjoy - but the children as well - who have grown up with this silly dance! Not only does the tradition evoke fond memories of Virginia Tech, but this tradition even extends to exemplify Hokie Respect - What college Game Day tradition invites the opposing teams sousaphone section to join in our fun little tradition? Let's turn this one around and Save the Hokie Pokie!

Alumni here. Keep the tradition. "Let's Go! Hokies!" by a random guest is no where near a fun. However, if you'd bring back "Stick it in, stick it in" I'm perfectly fine with the Hokie Pokie going away ....

This tradition is a big part of Virginia Tech football. It helps to keep the spirits of the crowd up during tough home games while reminding the crowd that we are all united as Hokies. Taking away traditions like this pulls us away from that unity. As an alumni and a season ticket holder I will be very disappointed if this is a tradition that athletics chooses to end.

I am an Alumnus, 1987. I have a son who currently attends Virginia Tech. I am not one who automatically rejects change. This change makes no sense. The Hokey Pokey is a time honored Hokiest Football tradition. Even opponent's to as have joined the fun. Sesame Street's Elm does the Hokey Pokey.
Please reconsider.
