Very public service is a big part of helping character both for young people and adults. It’s also huge the school systems promote this type of work and education. It’s very similar to what FFA does as well as 4H. The fact that they were offering credit for this. I thought it was amazing. It’s sad that they feel they need to make this type of change. We are going to end up with a generation of children that will continue to feel entitled and won’t have any desire to give back to their community. Let’s stop this now and encourage our elected officials, our educators, and our academic leadership to promote this important work. As a Guide dog handler for over 30 years, I know and respect how important it is to have a strong puppy raise your Community. I also think it’s a great opportunity for young people to learn responsibility and to give back.

Programs like this is needed to help blind individuals continue to be independent and be able to work just like any other person. Shutting down this program will be detrimental to students, and potential clients. Without puppy raisers major guide dog schools would not be able to flourish and provide clients their independence.

My first guide dog was from a high school raising program. These programs teach students the importance of selflessness, discipline, and caring about others in the community.

Save this program as it impacts the whole community not just the individual that receives the guide dog but the many people that interact with it and the community for making our world a better place.

I had the opportunity to be a puppy raiser at 14 years old, and the experience had a lasting impact on who I became as a person and a professional. Through that program I learned responsibility, empathy, and how to confidently interact with people in public settings. It strengthened my ability to communicate, advocate, and serve others with patience and respect. Today I manage a department of more than 20 people, and I still draw on the lessons I learned during that time. The experience shaped how I approach leadership, teamwork, and service in my everyday life. Programs like this do far more than train guide dogs—they help shape young people into compassionate, capable adults. I strongly believe in the value of this program and the positive influence it has on both the community and the individuals involved.

Raising guide dogs was an important part of my development as a youth. It not only helped me learn to train animals but how to learn from them, be patient, see past my own desires to help someone improve their lives. It drove me toward a lifetime of civic engagement and volunteering. It taught me so much about compassion for strangers and other living beings. My experience raising guide dogs prepared me for every work role I have ever had. Raising guide dogs has opened more doors and forged more solid networks than any other experience I have had in life. This program teaches students more than training dogs. It is a unique and important program that helps students develop crucial networking and servant leadership skills which are highly sought after in the corporate world. I highly recommend this program for all students as above all it teaches civic engagement. Please keep the guide dogs program.
