I think it would be a shame to cut these programs. These dogs are such a huge help and with out these programs it will cut way down on the amount of people that can be helped. Also the you g people that are training these dogs are learning their own set of life lessons. Team work, responsibility, discipline, work ethic, and loyalty. They also learn how to follow through and not quit. I pray that you reconsider getting rid of the programs.

These students are our future! This is a way for them to learn and give without asking for something in return. It gives the students a voice and a way to teach others. Because of my son we are now raising our 15th pup! I teach 1st grade and they are our future! Don’t stop the amazing programs of giving!

As someone who was a middle school, high school and college raiser, I can speak to the immense impact GDB had on my life. It helped me gain animal handling and behavior experience that is valuable in my future career path. It also gave me an immense amount of community service hours which employers really value! Finally, it increased my public speaking skills as I educated the public on GDB and what I was doing!

While I never participated personally, I watched so many incredible bonds form between trainers and dogs, fulfillment, and incredible guide dogs come out of this program. This program is so helpful, not just for those needing guide dogs, but for those high school kids who are struggling and want to train a companion, even if just for a while. Please please keep this program, it rocks

My daughter is a senior at Highland high school and has raised two guide dog puppies. The first puppy she raised went on to be a guide dog and the second is just starting the training program in Oregon. This has been a very important part of my daughter‘s development as a student and a young woman. She has learned a great deal and grown so much as a person raising and training these puppies. Participating in this program has also influenced her career choices and may have changed the course of her life. I implore you to reconsider your decision to cancel this program and to continue the program.

I wanted to share our personal experience with the guide dog puppy–raising program, because losing this class would genuinely be a loss for so many students who need something real, meaningful, and service-oriented in their lives. Our family has raised two guide dog puppies through the high school program, and the impact on my daughter has been incredible. This wasn’t just a class — it shaped who she is. Throughout high school, she learned what it means to be responsible for another living being every single day… feeding, training, advocating, showing up even when it was inconvenient, exhausting, or emotionally hard. She learned patience, frustration tolerance, how to handle setbacks, and how to keep going even when she wasn’t sure she was doing everything perfectly. Those are life skills you can’t teach from a textbook. When she applied to college this year, she had an application full of real service, volunteerism, leadership, and resilience — not just clubs or resume fillers. She wrote about her puppy raising in her essay: the tough moments, the self-doubt, the tears, the joy of watching a dog grow, and the moment she met the recipient of her first graduated guide dog. That was one of the most powerful full-circle experiences she’s ever had. And now, she’s pursuing a path in the healthcare field, directly influenced by her time raising guide dogs and her passion for helping people with disabilities. No, the class didn’t “train her for a dog-related career.” But it absolutely shaped her values, her direction, her confidence, and her purpose. Programs like this matter. They build empathy. They build character. They build maturity at a time when kids desperately need something deeper than screens, grades, and pressure. Not every class has to be engineering or calculus to be worthwhile. Not every elective exists to create a future career. We have choir because kids love to sing. We have drama because kids love to express themselves. We

This program benefits, not only the students also recipients of Guide Dogs. There’s no reason it should be cut. It’s a highly valuable program on multiple levels. What is needed to support it and have it continue?

I am a current guide dog raiser for Guide Dogs For The Blind. I have seen how raising dogs have helped the youth. Their confidence builds. They are proud of their work. They learn responsibility. They make lifelong friends. There is so much more why this benefits the youth yet alone the people these dogs serve. It would be a tragedy if this program was cut. Please, for the sake of your future, reconsider your decision and keep the program in place.

I personally go to highland high, and what makes highland so great is the fact that they have so many classes and career courses for anyone and everyone and this one one that a lot of my friends love.

It’s so important we encourage students to work with animals and further their education is disability aides and accessibility. Guidedogs is a very important program and it’s completely unfair to get rid of it when so many students love it

In a full personal memoir, I could never express how much this program has meant to my confidence, happiness, and general self. I would hate to deprive the next generations of the chance to raise a guide dog!

From the individuals I know who have participated in this program, I know how much of a difference it makes. Please don’t let it go away, the impact guide dogs have on the visually impaired as well as on the high schoolers who participate is incredible and can not stop!!
