The University of Hull finally backed down and reversed their decision to kill our Graduate School facility. You forced the board to listen and protected the future of our research. Stay alert because we are watching to make sure they do not try this again.
We the undersigned object the the closure of the Graduate School facility at the University of Hull, and the withdrawal of facilities for post graduate researchers. We urge the University of Hull to reconsider its decision to close the school
The University of Hull administrators cannot ignore this momentum anymore. We are forcing them to look at the mess they created and they are panicked by our refusal to stay quiet.

There is insufficient space in the library for silent study. Masters students also cannot access the areas set aside for PhD students, which are insufficient. The GS is a valuable resource and valuable for the student experience. I am very concerned by plans to close the space

The Graduate School has offered a community of support and sanctuary exclusively for the needs of postgrads. Removing it sends a negative message about their value, particularly to overseas candidates.

Part-time postgraduate students do not always have the ability to meet up with and get to know other students. Having a dedicated space for postgraduate students facilitates this need. In the long run this will not benefit the learning culture of students or the University.

There is no other QUIET facility available on campus for postgraduates on taught masters, as we do not have access to the postgrad room in the library. The rest of the library only has the reading room as a quiet zone, and this room is not even alway quiet. Some of us are writing theses and need the quiet study space!

The Graduate School is an important part of PG studies as it provides a place that allows for silent working as well as giving opportunities for PG students to work together. Many of us live far away from campus and the school is a focal point for us travelling in to university.

I respect the university's concerns about cost control and sustainable development. But closing GS without efficient consultation with students is outrageous! Although the commercialisation is an unavoidable step for the university to go through, the essence of university is still an educational institution rather than a bureaucratic company!

The Graduate School facility is vital for students doing there Masters and PhD's. Closing this facility will most likely effect the overall enrollment of the University, is that what they really want or need.

We don't have anywhere else to work that's 24 hours.
