Your department needs to come up with a more humane solution to this problem. It is immoral to kill wild animals everytime they venture into human occupied areas. The bears can be successfully relocated to an area that is a good distance away. I am shocked and depressed that your department would choose the easiest and laziest option for dealing with these bears. Animals have the right to exist on this planet too. They don't deserve the death penalty every time they encounter human society, especially in Alaska where humans are intruding on the bears natural habitat.

I live behind the nature center in Eagle River and I have bear all summer long in my yard. We have never had a problem with aggression from momma and her cubs. We have a locking garbage can, and they know it is not a food source for them. People need to take resoncibility for their environment and that means garbage should be locked up completely inaccessible to them. It our governments job to protect the wildlife, not enable behavior of ignorant people.

If we would STOP developing homes in the woods where we know wildlife live, this would NOT be a problem!! We are taking land away from the wildlife and get upset because they are on there property, in fact WE are on THEIR property!!!! If you want to live out in the wild you need to learn to live together!!! They are ONLY looking for food and water to survive!!!!!

Wildlife should at all costs be protected . The bears haven't behaved aggressively or in an otherwise threatening manner and should there not be blamed for the mistakes of humans. We should be able to coexist with this beautiful creatures - side by side. When hordes of people with cameras show up and the police should move them to a safer area for their own (and the bears) sake. Don't punish the bears - administer bear-safe trashcans to the area to minimise possible human-to-bear-contact and keep searching for a sanctuary that might consider taking them all in.
