Both my sons were transfer students from Luiseno to the GEMS program. They loved it. They excelled academically. They participated in campus activities. They made friends that they still have today. They were well prepared to high school. Both boys went on to the TCHS Engineering program. Both have/had 4.0 in that program. My older son opted to take all AP and Honors classes. He passed most with 4 & 5’s. He was accepted to SDSU for Aerospace Engineering. His foundation for success was the GEMS program. My younger son is a junior at TCHS and is doing well. I think they both had a unique experience attending EMS GEMS program that can not be replicated at individual sites. The resources (staffing/fiscally) do not seem to be available to serve these students in the same way at each school site. Their core curriculum classes encompassed their academic peers. They were able to focus on learning as a whole class at the same comprehension level. In some cases at an accelerated pace over other grade level students. This allowed them to remain engaged especially at an age where they are very easily distracted or feel pressure from peers to not be the “smart” kid. They had freedom to be themselves and learn openly. If the program did not accept transfers I know both my children would have a much different middle school experience that could have negatively impacted their success in high school and in their life ahead. GEMS has been a blessing. Our once shy - introverted little thinker - after her first year has broken out of her shell. She has found a special group of friends that she bonded with immediately. She has grown more in 1 school year then I ever thought possible. Being surrounded by like minded students and taught by teachers that understand she and her classmates has been amazing. This program is completely necessary and such a valuable tool for our bright little minds!!!

I am not 18 or over so I can't sign, but if you can I'm begging you to. I just finished a wonderful 3 years at Elsinore Middle School, and the GEMS program helped me all the way through. I wouldn't have met so many people like me if it wasn't for this program. I would have gone to Terra Cotta and been put in regular classes, where I wouldn't have been able to learn at a pace that was right for me. Middle school would have been unbearable for me without this program. The hope of learning something new is what kept me coming to school every single day. Without this program, I would have been stuck, unable to excel. This program unleashes students. It allows us to have our own ideas, and experiment with them. It allows us to meet kids just like us, and allows us to bounce innovative ideas off of each other, developing them into something that could change the world. That's what this program does. It raises world-changers. It gives us opportunities to be successful, to feel proud of our accomplishments. I have a little brother. I want him to be able to go through this program and fulfil his potential. He won't be able to do that in regular classes. Don't take this opportunity away from him. He deserves a chance to learn in an environment that's right for him, for the way he learns. Don't take that opportunity away from hundreds of other children who need this program. If you let them, they will change the world for the better. They will make an impact on the lives of everyone around them. Students need this program. I needed this program. Just like kids who are behind in class need a program to help them excel, kids who are ahead need one too. When kids who excel are forced into a classroom where they aren't learning quickly enough or in the right way or at the right level, they grow to despise school. They stop trying. I've seen that happen to kids at other schools, not in the GEMS program. This program keeps students on their toes, it keeps them from getting lazy. The

It would be a disservice to all the gifted kids in our district to not allow them to tranfer to EMS for the GEMS program. No other program pushes them or caters to them at their level like this program does.

My grand daughter, Elizabeth Shumaker, has greatly benefited from the GEMS program at EMS. Without it, she would have been in classes with students less interested in learning. She has excelled in so many ways. It would be tragic to eliminate this program. Her younger brother would be denied the same opportunity she has had. I am very opposed to school districts that put all of their emphasis on children who come from a detrimental home environment looking only to get students to a hypothetical level of normal proficiency. Those on the higher end of learning skills should not be held back. This would only lead to the result of dumbing-down America.

My daughter has benefited greatly through her participation in the GEMS program as a transfer student to EMS from Terra Cotta Middle School. I hope that my son has the same opportunity as she did to participate in the GEMS program at EMS.

This program is one of the only ones that I know of that seeks to meet the needs of students who are achieving above grade level. Funds are frequently thrown at students who underachieve to bring them up to "acceptable" performance, but those who stand out for over performing are often forgotten. Its devastating to know that LEUSD & EMS in particular are willing to let those who are successful and who are most likely to bring great changes to the world slide backwards, bringing everyone to average.
Having students who outperform brings up the scores of the school and district as a whole. This results in increased funding... if money is all you care about. However, as educators shouldn't providing the best education possible be your top priority? This program takes nothing away from dual immersion, ELS, or any other good and necessary program running in our district. Providing options enhances educational opportunities. Please don't take this away!
