SAVE THE FIELD - PROTECT EDINBURGH’S GREENBELT!

Far too many houses here already in densely built new developments and inadequate infrastructure and essential services. I thought that some of the Mortonhall owned land was to remain as a working farm, part of Henry Trotter’s bequest. Hearing that Tree Sparrows, visitors to our garden, and Yellow Hammers and Sky Larks, birds whose song heralds the onset of summer and reminds us of the countryside that once prevailed around this park of Edinburgh, are under threat from this development is extremely sad for us all. Please leave some unspoilt land for us to enjoy.

Hi anonymous contributor from London - We need more affordable homes. We DON’T need more low quality/high cost 4-5 bedroom houses. If Barrat or David Wilson homes cared about the housing crisis, then they would build 50% ,or more, affordable housing in their developments, instead of the required 25%. If you ever make it up this way, take a walk around the proposed sight and see what the community stands to lose if this development goes ahead.

The infrastructure does not support another development - travel times are already unacceptably high. Doctors appointments appointments are increasingly hard to obtain. The site is prone to flooding and developing the land will only exaccerbate the problem - not to mention further losses in biodiversity. We are supposed to be protecting nature, given climate change, not erroding it further.

The site is not allocated in the Local Development Plan, and is in the Green Belt. It performs an important role in managing flooding. The area is already very underprovided for essential health facilities, and the road network is already congested. It is not a suitable site to meet the housing requirement and this kind of speculative development should be discouraged.

I disagree to the build of extra housing due to impact on the environment. The impact on infrastructure. As well as the medical facilities in the region. We need green space! It's greed from the developers.

I live locally and would be devastated at loss of the green belt fields. There is not enough infrastructure to support hundreds of new houses here.

Greenbelt land is protected from development for good reason. Why are we even having to sign petitions for this. This should not be up for discussion. No development for the sake of all our futures.

Please stop absorbing our Greenbelt under housing. The local services are stretched to the limit already.

The green belt needs to be protected permanently, so that there is no chance for an application to be submitted and granted. Don't take the bribe 'let's build schools first'. That is good on its own, of course, but it just means 'then build on the greenbelt. Tell your MP and MSP about that. Unfortunately, currently, the major parties are de facto on the side of the developers as they keep the legal path which allows to build on the greenbelt. The politicians may support you in this specific case, but yet do not commit to permanently protect it from development, and try to avoid this discussion altogether. The interests of a handful of developers, likely not even living locally, seem to be more important than the interests of the constituents.

No provision for GP, dentist, schools etc. And traffic congestion is bad now so will be worse if more houses built on Green Belt.

You are destroying everything

Not needed. Land provides ideal walking opportunities for people and their families who already live here, without the need to ruin it by building more houses, causing more congestion, more traffic chaos, more people to influx the area, more pressure on local services and amenities. I very much doubt the imbeciles in the clowncil and the development firms live here and therefore is totally selfish and wreckless to force more compromises on the community that already live here. And, if climate change really is a an important objective, does destroying natural habitats for nature to build more flat pack naff modern builds not contribute to that????!!!! Nah, couldn't possibly, could it. It's just your fossil fuel vehicle. Aye, whatever.

Stop Edinburgh council destroying even more of the natural area and wildlife living within it. It depresses me to see the damage done with tar and concrete in the previous developments around the surrounding areas.

I'm a local and am horrified at these plans.
