Development is needed but please retain the community aspect provided by the markets in New market square. To only accommodate more conventional retail would destroy the heritage of the area. The clue is in the name!

Bought a beautiful old poster of a play at Newmarket Sq. some years ago, that hangs proudly in our home. It was a sunny, relaxing Sunday, wandering there with my wife. Special artefacts & memories to treasure. That's just one of probably countless examples of what the Dublin Flea Market is all about and why it matters.

It would be a shame to see yet another spark of Dublin life and community vanquished for the sake of capitalism. I love this market. I have met many wonderful self starters, crafters and jumble experts. Please leave the square to the people. Think of what might have happened to Temple bar had it become a bus depot as planned.

This proposal would radically alter the character of this area and community resource. I often go from the north of the city to the Flea market as I enjoy this unique setting but would have no interest in visiting this area if it were redeveloped in the manner proposed. It would be a real loss to the greater Dublin community.

It's essential that long tradition of trading be maintained in Newmarket Square and Liberties generally.

Let communities be communities, not 'retail hubs' with ubiquitous shops. Let people live in their communities, not price them out with expensive new builds.
