I used to be a stall holder at markets there. I find it incredible that this could disappear just like that! I've been in the country 30 years and it's a little bit of old Dublin remaining. Leave it alone!!

Newmarket Square has not only become home to many small business and stall holders but it has become a vital and much loved part of our community. It is a place where all ages and cultures can come and find a common ground no matter what their background. Dublin has become such a busy city that often you don't get a chance to just slow down and enjoy it, that's what make Newmarket Square so unique. It doesn't matter if you just want to spend a few hours browsing, catching up with friends or making new, or if your looking to get a bargain, the square provides a safe common ground for communities to come together. To reduce the market space to a mere 265sqm from 1850sqm is just unsustainable.

Newmarket square is a precious and rare space for community, arts and crafts, organic food - good things. Big corporations have already taken the city centre, Temple Bar etc, sadly. Hands off Newmarket square!

Such an amazing space that is doing so much for the community. It'd be a shame to redevelop this and lose it's character, charm and purpose. Dublin needs more places like this.

Please don't try to fix something that isn't broken, something that is, in fact, thriving. And something which has made a positive, important and sustainable difference to Dublin 8 while government and business lacked the imagination, the will and the money. Work with the Dublin Flea to agument what it has done for Newmarket Square, please don't just bulldoze because it now you've decided you're ready.

Having the markets brings a vitality to the area as well as community. The very existence of the markets is a proving ground for start up business and those wishing to take an entrepreneurial venture. Markets need space to encourage those selling their wares as well as creating the diversity that attracts people to the area.
