I have been both a trader and a visitor at the Dubkin Flea in Newmarket square on several occassions and was shocked to hear the recent news that this establishment is under threat by unnecessary development in the area. Th Dublin food co-op provides essential access for local people to fresh produce, the markets offer an alternative side to Dublin for locals and tourists, and traders rely on these markets for extra income. It is a unique area and provides so much to the local economy and and adds so much to the atmosphere and thriving nature of Dublin 8. To replace this with a pub and retail units would be a travesty.

This Market is one of a kind and it means and matters a lot to us. It is by far the best Market in Dublin if not Ireland...if this market goes, Dublin will loose a huge chunk of its individuality, creativity and passion! It is a major hub for social interaction that people from all over the world come to enjoy. Save our market and please let it be

I launched my business at the Dublin Flea market and know that it's a valuable incubator for small business.

The markets are important to many people for many reasons. They are a social occasion for some, to meet up with friends. For others who may be new to the country. or for those who for various reasons do not have an established group of friends, they provide a venue where a person can visit alone and they do not stand out from the crowd. No questions asked. They can browse, sit down and chat to strangers over coffee etc. Should the markets go, it would be a huge loss to many. The traders often provide a listening ear too. That's why so many people love the markets. Plus the bargains to be had!! Please don't let all this vanish.

I can't imagine Dublin 8 without the Flea Market and all of the community markets in Newmarket Square! It's such an integral and unique part of the community. Look at sterile and soulless Smithfield as an example and reject this proposals!
