Dr. Hardy must stay as Somers Director Of Guidance! Dr. Hardy is a positive force for the Somers community and has the best interest in building the future of Somers children and how Somers is perceived by colleges. She is the chicken soup for the Somers High School student's soul.

This decision will result in the elimination of a vital resource for our students and the district as a whole, the elmination of the innovative, forward thinking that has been pivotal to our district's success, as well as the necessary oversight of our guidance department. Finally, we will suffer the devastating loss of the passion and drive Dr. Hardy brings to Somers. I implore our school Board and Dr. Blanch to reconsider this very short sighted and devastating decision.

When I think of Dr. Hardy so many positive connotations come to mind: leader, friend, inspirational, dedicated, passionate, knowledgeable to all that know her staff and students alike. You can tell she is a person who truly loves what she does. The cost to the student body of Somers if the position is eliminated is far greater than what will be saved in the budget. The question of WHY this specific position was chosen to eliminate vs. another administration position has not been answered by the BOE. Very few people in the room the evening of the 1/19/16 meeting knew about the IB program or and no body believes in a program that will benefit the few when the DOG benefits ALL, students, parents, staff and administration. Dr. Blanche himself said a DOG position is key to what his perfect school set-up would be. PLEASE KEEP THE POSITION OF DOG, ESPECIALLY DR. HARDY IN THE POSITION OF DOG.

Guidance is the one area where the school should focus on making stronger not weaker. Guidance truly touches all the students, unlike like other positions and programs that cater to the few. With Dr, Hardy's Leadership, her team will only get stronger, benefiting students in a critical and difficult decision making time in their young lives.

The Director of Guidance has a critical role at a very critical time in our children's high school years. Dr. Hardy has a wealth of knowledge and experience and nobody else is better suited to help our children navigate through the college selection and application process. Do not eliminate this position.

I had 5 children go through the school system. There was more than one occasion where Deborah Hardy had to step in and clear things up.
This is a much needed position. It's in the schools and students best interest to keep it.

She was truly one of the only people I felt was knowledge and reliable at hs. When other councelors didn't know or didn't do as promised she stepped in even during the summer to help and get things staightened out. I think you are looking at eliminating the wrong person. You can look to reevaluating who needs to go like ineffective teachers and other staff. Would be a sin and ironic to remove someone who at the hs is actually worthwhile.

Ask the BOE and Blanche why the Reading Books that were ordered for 2016-17 were denied at the elementary school? Are these funds and Dr. Hardy's salary being moved to support the useless HS IB program? There are two IB programs running in Westchester. Both in very different ways. The IB Math and Science classes are not helping kids in college. The English and History class are so difficult kids drop out of them and take AP instead. The IB schools attract affluence business families and this population aspires to student who attend private colleges, ivy leagues coming from outside the U.S. Training teachers for this program is costly includes travel costs and is ongoing. Adding this program is not cost effective and will not build the declining tax base in Somers. Class sizes will be 5-10 in each class. IB is not for the average student it is for the top 10%. Keep asking questions Somers and understand that its your tax money this will be put toward useless costly programs.
