Petition produced by Charlotte Franklin, CSM SSLC Chair and academic rep in FXU’s Student Council for CSM due to the concern over the potential detrimental effect this move could have on the students and staff. (Note since this petition was first printed it has now come to surface that the directors of education, Richard Pascoe and Ken O'Brien, will also be moved into Tremough House). The petition is simply to determine and show Exeter staff and management what the majority student opinion is. Reasons against the move: 1. Potential decrease in communication between staff and students as little reason for students to venture up to the CSM Museum on a regular occurrence. 2. Due to the limited interaction outside of lecturing between staff and students, some students will be less likely to ask for help. 3. Members of staff trying to contact students or discuss academic topics are less likely to come into contact with the students to do so and to check that students are okay; if they are not answering emails, coming up to lectures etc… 4. In a stressful situation such as when having to deal with mitigation students potentially may have to see three different members of staff (tutor, DOE and admin) in three different buildings on campus, potentially whilst ill or in a state of distress. 5. Admin are not easily available to deal with situations which need resolving immediately such as missing lecturers or other emergency’s. 6. If the office is in Tremough house students will find difficulty in handing their work in and be at the field trip meet point in the museum on time on Monday and Thursday hand-in’s. 7. Potential slow-down of work being returned from lecturers as more effort and time required for lecturers to return coursework to the admin team in Tremough House. Reasons for the move: 1. There is a significant lack of space in the CSM area for lecturer’s offices. 2. Potentially high level of noise along the specific CSM corridor due to students picking up coursework/handing in.
