The persistence of the covered market's diverse small businesses is of great value to Oxford students and residents. I urge the City Coundil to help these businesses survive by maintaining existing levels of rent.

I support the efforts to preserve this significant landmark in Oxford. As I generally support preserving historic architecture

I have shopped in the stores in the covered market since I moved here 16 years ago. Many of the business owners go out of their way to support their customers and visitors. It is our turn to support them.

That market has been there many years and should not be charged that amount it is disgusting. That market has character. My aunt had a stall there for many years and very fond memories as a child. Please do not charge this stupid amount to the covered market. Please think again

The covered market gives Oxford some much needed retail variety - it has been the heart of an Oxford shopping experience for 200 hundred years! Don't let it be turned into yet another Tesco's!

The Covered Market is the only place left in Oxford with any character or individuality and is therefore the best place in Oxford to visit.

The Covered Market can't close. It's too important to Oxford.

The Covered Market is a unique part of Oxford heritage and identity. It needs to be preserved.

Do we really want a city centre completely dominated by the same chain stores like every other city? Support small local businesses not tax dodgers!

Oxford's Covered Market is a vital part of the life of the City and must kept. Please encourage the Council to rethink their policy and lower the rent rises to reasonable and sustainable levels. Rises of 50-70% seem far too high unless the existing rents are very much below market levels for similar market places in the UK.

One of the best and unique aspects of Oxford shopping - don't let it go!

The Covered Market is the best place in Oxford to buy affordable, local produce from people who actually remember you from week to week and are happy to give advice on the best cuts of meat or fillets of fish to buy. None of the shops in the rest of Oxford can even come close to the personable and helpful service available in the Market (no, not even Waitrose). The City Council should support diversity in Oxford, not stifle it for its own (surely short-term) gain.

The covered market is great, the only place left with independent shops!

Please don't let high rents force out this unique piece of Oxford's history. The rest of Oxford's retail scene has turned into the same boring landscape as every other town in Britain, so it's important to keep the Covered Market for independent traders, and not just another boring modern shopping mall.

We already have the characterless Clarendon Centre & Cornmarket to accommodate the high street chains. A magical place like Oxford needs the oasis that is the Covered Market; without it you could be in any boring town centre.

If you force out every independent trader with sky-high rents, Oxford will become the same as every other city center; and why would anybody visit then? Don't let these shortsighted measures destroy an important and unique part of the city's charm

Oxford Market is a gem in a sea of homogeneous retail blandness! Keep it different, keep it special, and keep the rents at a reasonable level for the sole traders!

No city can afford to lose sites which are peculiarly their own.
