It may be the poshest market i know but i'd hate to see it lose the food factor. A higher rent would inevitably attract chain stores and the place would cease to be a market, more of an arcade. We've enough of them. Keep small business in the city.

I don't normally sign petitions because I don't like begging on my knees - when it comes to bullies, I'd rather people just ignored their demands or gave them a good kicking - but it seems this is the only way to slap these greedy landlords down.

A truly miserable decision - the Market is one of few retail experiences in Oxford that may be noted as either original or enjoyable!

I love this market, it is so refreshing to see the traditional butchers with good quality meat. You can shop for a whole meal here by adding fantastic veg too. Then treat yourself to a little snack or maybe something more extravagant like a handbag!!

This market is full of gems and is more or less the only reason I ever venture into Oxford town centre these days. We have ample dull chain stores and homogenised shopping areas, don't take the covered market from us.

So much for Government policy to try and support small businesses! Left hand doesn't know what the right is doing. Neither does Oxford City Council apparently.

Covered Market is one of the wonderful hidden gems in Oxford. We don't need a homogenised metal shopping mall. You can keep your chain stores!

Don't be daft. The covered market is in the rough guide - every local know we have little to be proud of with our shops. So keep the good bits, ensure that it is a diverse and interesting place that feels like the markets we visit overseas with a character that reflects the place we are visiting. Go on Oxford - make some savvy decisions that recognise value for money in more ways than one.

The Covered Market is an Oxford treasure and rents should be fair and affordable for small traders so they can continue to offer diversity to shoppers who don't want just more big chains.

Please don't make the covered market just another generic shopping space. That's not the way to boost Oxford's economy and draw people to the area. Shops are failing because they can't offer diversity in the same way the Internet can, not because there aren't enough of them. Diversity from independent traders is key!

The Covered Market is the only good shopping experience in Oxford. Don't increase the rents and force out the small traders.

I live in Hampshire and visited the market today for the first time, it was refreshing to see genuine butchers, greengrocer and cheesemonger. I found the rest of Oxford shopping experience boring, I could have been anywhere, the covered market was the single redeeming feature that might entice me to return.

This is such an important place, and full of original and independent retailers... in the face of difficult economic times, please do all you can to keep it that way and keep rents down.

Please save the last unique shopping area in Oxford City Centre. We don't want more chain shops.
