Please save the coaches. As UK City of Culture, we should be promoting participation in sport not taking away opportunities. Elite skaters will not have access to the intensive one to one private tuition they require to compete on a world stage and will undoubtedly have to skate elsewhere. Many of the younger beginner skaters will also be likely to go elsewhere or be forced to give up entirely. I worry particularly about those skaters with disabilities who have formed very strong relationships and trust in their individual coaches. There are many children with disabilities who skate and they will be hugely disadvantaged should they have to join group sessions or should they lose the coach they have built a special rapport with.

If you have an ice rink you need skaters, some will then want to progress further with private lessons and for this you need coaches. Some people will want group lessons such as Skate UK, for this you need coaches. Some skaters will progress and compete in competitions around the country representing their club/rink, these skaters need coaches. Some will even compete at the British Championships and Hull has a good history of providing skaters who have competed at this level. This is a result of good coaches. Take away the coaches and you lose skaters and interest, you cannot have one without the other. Hull has a couple of very good rugby teams, a Premiership football team and Olympic medallist in boxing. Please do not neglect the minor sports as the next figure skating champion will never come from Hull.

Stop destroying sports that aren't related to football, rugby, cricket, tennis, darts formula one, snooker and horse racing as examples of the larger range of money maker's that are televised. The council should be promoting and backing a sport that is loved by so many. Either leisurely or as an active sport. When a skater goes to the Olympics and televised they are not just reprising their ice rink and coaches but also the city.

I think it's disgusting that you would ruin a child's chance on following there dreams by removing coaches this is what you are doing !!!!

How can a city call itself a city of culture and yet cripple a premier facility in this way. As an alumni of the university I am horrified by this proposal.

i sign this petition as a grandparent whose grandaughter has been skating there for about year and seems to of progressed . this will effect her im sure council have little vision when it comes to this type of thing

My daughter has lessons here with a brilliant instructor. She loves going I can't believe she may have to give up because of the stupid council. The instructors are always booked up so how can a reduction in numbers be justified?

Disgusting way to treat employees even if they are self employed or employed. If the coaches are coaching they are bringing revenue into the rink so it doesn't make sense to get rid of some
