The Shattuck Theatre is a beautiful art deco gem which should be preserved. We drive out from Pleasanton to glimpse the beauty of this historic theatre which shows great films. This theatre is a real gem which cannot be replaced.

Let's have affordable housing or at least in-lieu of fees that can actually pay for it elsewhere. $20K per unit is way too low.

I love this theater for its diversity of offerings and irreplaceable architecture. It is the only thing that brings me to this part of Berkeley.

I don't live in Berkeley but part of the reason I come there a lot are things like The Shattuck. This is a treasure which should be preserved. The mayor and city council seem to want to make downtown into a little manhattan without any street level benefits. We have lost a lot of local businesses to corporate chains and megastorses. Has to stop!

This is a terrible project, Berkeley is a cultural mecca and the beautiful Shattuck Theater, which offers multiple theaters for documentary and Independent films, is central to it's very identity. Not only is it architecturally appealing, but it shows quality films available nowhere else, and bring in Directors and Actors for post-showing discussions. People travel long distances in order to take advantage of these offerings and then spend their money in Berkeley dining establishments. The combination of historic buildings, coffee houses and restaurants in the immediate vicinity, and Independent film make this neighborhood a mecca that should be preserved. An 18 story building has no place and would only destroy the cultural appeal of our downtown. This sort of development belongs in a metropolis, not the college town that we residents have chosen live in. Outsiders should not be allowed to destroy the charm of our community and bring in a population bigger than our already crowded streets can handle. I keep asking, why would ANYONE want to promote such destruction of our town.

I grew up in Berkeley, and have raised my kids to adulthood here. An 18 story building would be a blight on the downtown!

I come in from Merced and stay overnight! I visit regularly for the Berkeley experience, and the Shattuck Theatre is the main attraction... Most definitely NO on the demolition, YES on saving our cinema!
