I support independent films and community access to an affordable place to view them. Keep The Shattuck!

The Shattuck Cinemas present the best and broadest spectra of foreign and independent film in the bay area. It would devastate the moviegoing community to lose this treasure. As we learned from the mucked-up Fine Arts building project - (which promised to re-incorporate the cinema, but of course never did,) we really can't trust developers. Once rebuilt, the building's becomes so overvalued that no theater can afford the rent. If this project goes forward - we will absolutely NEVER see the Shattuck return. And that would be a crying shame!

I WONDER, DO THE PEOPLE [SIC] WHO MAKE THESE DECISIONS ACTUALLY LIVE IN BERKELEY?

The Shattuck Cinema's gorgeous themed theaters and starlit ceilings provide a distinct movie experience in Berkeley that deserves to live on.

This theater is a fixture in Berkeley Square, with a long history. It should not be razed.

Filmmakers in Berkeley like myself ("Ishi, the Last Yahi," "Waiting to Inhale") oppose the closing and demolition of one the last great theaters in our town. Join us in saving the Shattuck Cinemas.
