This would be a terrible loss to Berkeley. This is the only reason we ever go to that section of downtown Berkeley,and the only theater to show many of the small, independent and foreign films that we cannot see anywhere else. Please do not destroy this important Berkeley cultural institution!

As former Legislative Aide for Vice-Mayor Maudelle Shirek, I would strongly oppose the demolition of the Berkeley Shattuck Cinemas. Further I would urge all cineastes to pledge to physically obstruct this project and boycott any replacement businesses and merchants or commercial uses that would replace the theater.
