8/6/2016. DO NOT, PLEASE DO NOT, make this mistake!! Most municipalities have already learned from the destruction of historic and ESPECIALLY places on the NATIONAL HISTORIC REGISTER that the destruction of our tangible American history impoverishes not only us all but makes the municipality charmless and crass. Make this extremely rare dwelling into a museum; restore it; get advice from Historic New England, based in MA; do everything you can to protect learning and continuity.

As an aside from the historical value, the planned demolition of this house by the Town Council on a .48 acre parcel will cost taxpayers lots of money for contamination testing and then in environmental clean up.

WOULD YOU PLEASE HAVE THE COMMON SENSE TO SAVE THE APOLLAS ARNOLD HOUSE & HAVE IT USED FOR HISTORICALLY RELATED CELEBRATIONS & EVENTS!! I AM A FIFER OF THE EAST HAMPTON 3RD CT RGT OF FIFES AND DRUMS. HOUSES LIKE THIS (CA. 1790) AND FIFE & DRUM CAN FLOURISH IF PEOPLE DO NOT FORGET HOW IMMENSELY IMPORTANT IT IS TO SAVE BOTH!!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LET THE CITIZENS OF EAST HAMPTON CT & SURROUNDING TOWNS HAVE SOMETHING WE CALL HOME SURVIVE TOGETHER WITH US!!!!

Please stop destroying Connecticut's history! Look around at all CT has lost to "progress" and stop the madness! Pick up a copy of Wallace Nutting's Connecticut Beautiful, look at the beauty that has been destroyed and change your hearts to do the right thing!

I expect that elected officials and those who work in municipal government in general be much more forward and innovative in their thinking than the current plan suggests. As a municipal planner who daily deals with the confluence of issues related to parking, development, and historic preservation, I know from experience that there are better options that can be created than destroying a structure to make way for parking-especially surface parking which is one of the biggest wastes of property. When you destroy this house, you are destroying a piece of local and Connecticut history that was seen as so inportant that it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Perhaps you don't understand the honor that this is. Once this property is gone, it's gone forever and even more of your heritage is chipped away. Saving historic homes is about saving the imprint of the people who built and inhabited them. Perhaps they are not George Washington. But, it is on the backs of the people who lived in these houses that our communities were built. Destroying some of the last remaining evidence that these people existed by demolishing structures that stand in testamony to them demonstrates that their contributions to the community over the centuries are not held in with much esteem by later generations. Remember that most were "just regular people" like all of us. Maybe that means that what you do in your life will not be worth holding in any esteem by future generations, either; you, too, and what you do are that unimportant? You have better options. Time to put on your thinking caps and come up with some. Please.

I find it sad that for a parking lot this town would rip down, discard and add this house to the land fill. When will people learn that NEVER AGAIN will we be able to find such an example. I might not live in East Hampton but the roots of my family are there as the Hall family where one of the first family's in town. I've done much research in town and would hate to see one more house gone for just pavement.
