Part of the allure of the Institute is the history of the place. People enjoy seeing things the way they were. It helps us remember who we are and where we can from.

I have many very fond memories of performing with the combined Chautauqua County High School bands and choruses each June every year from age nine until I graduated as an 18-year-old. It was always the highlight of the school year. Multiply that by the thousands of other students who also participated. And that doesn't even take into consideration the cultural events held in the Amphitheater. I would hate to see a "replica" replace the historic real amphitheater

My great-grandmother had one of the first houses at Chautauqua, and my family has enjoyed the Amphitheater from then to now. My memories from the early 1960s are as much of the sounds and smells of that wonderful old place as of the programs I enjoyed there. It's a piece of history that is unique, and we have only one chance to save it in its original form. Please don't replace it with a replica. I haven't had a chance to bring my new grandchildren yet!
