This is the first time I've heard the word "demolished" related to what I had thought would be "improvements and upgrades." As someone who owned a National Register historic early 1800's home, I know that rehabilitation can be expensive and complicated. But preservation is historically important, especially in Chautauqua, which is a designated historic site. Let's ban "demolish" from any plan for Amphitheater improvements.

Once a property is on the National Register of Historic properties, It was my understanding that hit could not be altered without permission from the Dept. of Interior and could never be demolished

The demolition (except for the choir loft) plans are in excess of stated intentions of "rehabilitation and upgrade plans".The Amphitheater will no longer be the historic building is is now. The Institution must develop an improvement plan that preserves our Amphitheater.

New design is hideous; does not improve our space and does not enlarge capacity!! Not worth the money! Try to come up with a different more beautiful plan - this is too hasty a decision!!

Chautauqua IS its authentic Victorian ambiance. Replacement with replicas will make Chautauqua nothing more than another Disneyland.

The plan to demolish this historic theatre, where American luminaries have lectured for over a century, is baffling to say the least, especially at Chautauqua. I give my full support to the effort to stop this travesty.

Having attended many performances at The Amp, I was shocked to hear that this historic structure was going to be demolished. When one thinks about the hundreds of historic structures that have been saved from the wrecking ball and renovated, I can't think of one that in retrospect I wish had been torn down! Yet, with a heavy heart, we all can list dozens of structures and whole city neighbors that have been regretfully lost, while we wonder why people didn't have the vision to realize what was being destroyed.

I actually love the new plans but there must be a way to preserve the old amphitheater... there's no going back once its gone.Isn't here some middle ground?
