Demolishing the Amp would be a crime. Let us all remember Penn Station in NYC. We'll never get it back.

I have only had the privilege of attending events at the Chautauqua Amphitheater twice but will remember those vacations forever. The age and character of the Amp gives so much to “the Chautauqua Experience” that I can’t imagine going to the same event or performance and getting half the chills and thrills at a newer facility. That in essence is what it will be…a facility… all squeaky new (except for the organ) and no true character. I sincerely hope you reconsider the decision to tear down this lovely piece of history. It will be a huge mistake.

It is necessary to improve the east side of this special historic structure. Also the bleach section needs to be replaced and improved as it is not original to this unique structure. It is not necessary to demolish and forever change this central structure.

Please save this wonderful piece of history. It is a historical icon and and newer building would ruin the embiance that has made Chautauqua the jewel that it had been for the past 140 years. If I wanted to hear performances in a new building, I can stay at home.

There are enviromentally ways to save and improve the existing structure without compromising the neighbors properties and saves the residents and visitors from continualbpleas for more money.

Believe several important issues remain, i.e., the ramps are unsafe, the light and sound system need update and a larger stage. Don't know if there are less intrusive alternatives to correct those issues.

It may not be ideal for modern performers or performances but it has served the institution well for 120 years. More importantly it should be obvious to anyone who loves Chautauqua that the Amphitheater is special, and yes, sacred. Removing it for something modern but "old looking" takes away from the institution's authenticity. What's next, demolishing the Athenaem in favor of a Hilton?

For now, improve the dressing rooms & whatever will fall apart without attention. Switch the focus to family-friendly endeavors, including vastly improving opportunities, activities & training for children and young adults (e.g. the Boys & Girls Club, a venue & programs for high school kids, sports of all sorts, life-long recreation, jobs & internships for kids post-Club). Assume substantially greater responsibility for & leadership in improving the water quality of Chq. Lake. Can C.I. thrive well into the 21st C. without a clean lake and a base of young families who will consistently choose it over myriad other places & adventures?

Consider the neighborhood. The traffic flow of kids to club. The loss of the bridge is a serious risk.
