The Amphitheater is the very heart of Chautauqua Institution. You cannot replace an icon. Leave it there as is with maybe a few updates. Use the $30 million for other improvements!

Had the luxury of seeing many great artists in this historic amphitheater. I think the institute can use $30 million for something better.

"Pave paradise, put up a parking lot. Don't it always seem to go, you don't know what you've got til it's gone." STOP wanting to tear down and START CHOOSING to PRESERVE. I love Chautauqua and have wonderful memories from my childhood, as do so many. Newer isn't better, the beauty about Chautauqua is is originality. It is a treasure and like every treasure it should protected with great love and care. I imagine those of you that are choosing to DEMOLISH and REPLACE probably didn't grow up there, never spent your childhood there and don't really have a clue as to the history of Chautaqua. Go build something new somewhere else AND LEAVE the preservation to those who know the value of Chautauqua.

The Amphitheater is historical and so charming for Chautauqua. How can anyone even consider tearing it down????

It would be a mistake to destroy this wonderful building in the name of progress.

Restore what needs restoring, not demolish the entire structure!!

Replacing the ramps with stairs is insane. It will be impossible for older Chautauquans (who are the majority of attendees) and those with mobility problems to attend events.
