I did not realize the plans were for demolition. Please do not destroy our beloved Amphitheater.

I strongly oppose the demolition project. We need to make improvements to the existing structure. Chautauqua is all about its history, and we love the present structure and connect to all those who have cherished it in their own lives. Preserve!

At its February meeting, the Chautauqua Institution Board of Trustees had a look at the next iteration of drawings completed by the Design Development Team charged with the historic rehabilitation of Chautauqua’s Amphitheater. – Chautauqua Pillars, spring 2013

Plain and simple, this would be a shame.

Tearing down the amp is a terrible mistake.

I don't pretend to know what the right decision is but I pray that you make the right one for the good of all of the Chautuaquans to come.

If you value something authentic, then you let it remain authentic.

Please do not demolish the amphitheater. Chautauqua would not be the same without it!

It's a historical icon. Leave it alone!

We've been coming there for years - it won't be the same.

I wrote a detailed note and put it in the box at the Smith Library. It suggested that the aisles not be made into stairways because people trip on stairs even if well-lit; the bleachers need to be preserved because many people prefer to sit there; the new plan would seat fewer people than in the past; eliminate the sound system when it is not needed.
