A decision to tear down the historic Amphitheater is baffling to say the very least. An institution that is predicated on the ideals and preservation of historic American culture would be commiting a hypocritical act to destroy its most prized venue. A long list of pivotal historical figures have spoken at the Amphitheater. The experience of sound and mind can not be matched anywhere else. Visitors can feel a century's worth of incredible history within its wooden beams. All that will be lost if it were to be replaced.

In 1964 I spent the summer at the institue as a Martha Holden Jennings awardee, I studied with the Clevelad Payhouse that summer. I stayed in a house directly across the street from the amphitheater. There were 30 of us from Cleveland who were housed within steps of the amphitheater. We spent evenings on the porch listening to the concerts. These memories will last forever and helped form who I am today.

a replica is a dis service to the original building. Restore the Ampitheater, do not destroy it"s history and heart of Chautauqua Institution.

I am shocked if the original announcements are truly a deception.
Typical do as I say not as I do Progressive Liberals who will spend 30m on a facility so they can here about starving children around the world.

The Amphitheater is an institute in and of itself - it should be preserved and regarded in the highest esteem for all Chautauquans to enjoy!

No Way! That ampitheater needs to be on the federal historic register and protected - not torn down. You could not come even close to building it in teh same manner and same quality with today's prices. Shame on you for tearing down history.
