The amphitheater is the symbol,the heart and the soul of Chautauqua May the voices of the scholars,the artists,and the religious speakers rise in spirit and harmony to save the experience they felt in this special forum!

Chautauqua is not what it once was and this current idiocy could very easily be a fatal blow to the spirit of the institution. If those behind the plan want a Disneyland imitation amp, perhaps they should put it in the acres of parking across the highway from the Institute. For shame!!!

Please save the amp. It holds great memories for me as a child and for my family still today. I don't get there often but it is a wonderful part of Chautauqua. We need to hold on to the old especially there. If we get rid of all the old we won't have any of what makes CHQ so wonderful. SAVE and KEEP the AMP. Restore, Renovate don't destroy. Don't get rid of the AMP get rid of the Pres.

This is another example of why Europe and the New England area is so appealing. There has been a respect for history. When you have something truly unique that fits with the area why would you change it. If you want a modern facility why not look at a spot on the newer ends of the grounds. So much for historic preservation! What a travesty! The serch for the almighty dollar reigns supreme at Chautauqua.

Honesty and openness are core to Chautauqua, what is being demolished. Have genuine debate with facts known to all- that's our hallmark. My concern is less about preserving a building that preserving our character. It is possible leadership doesn't grasp that so many feel left out as ideas evolved. But at this institution, a fair process that values all voices is vital. Chautauqua never before claimed a few were wiser than the many or that donors can control content of speech. The historic preservation most at stake is not one building, but our tradition of open debate, honoring all.
