Chautauqua is important because it reaches our hearts, is part of our history and stimulates our minds. That spirit also embraces change as it preserves the past in an honest and intelligent way. The one word that always comes to mind when I'm there is Americana. It's that unique sense of history that very few places today can elicit. I'm sure the finished product will be impressive but I fear it will lose that indelible atmosphere. It's a special thing that only the passage of time can create.

Why destroy one of the things that makes Chatauqua an unique, authentic place, especially with so much fake history masquerading as "the real thing?" And why would any non profit entity (with fiduciary responsibility to the public good) spend more money than necessary on anything? I grew up coming to Chatauqua and am so sorry to learn of this latest turn of events.
