Theodore Roosevelt called Chautauqua “the most American thing in America.” The Amp renovation or demolition, or whatever it is at the moment, has sparked many emotions and is seemingly dividing the community. It is not too late to fix this. I think it’s time to hit the pause button and get both sides in the same room. The goal obviously would be to have an amphitheater that can meet the needs for future generations while preserving the incredible history of the building itself. When will we learn? Once you destroy a piece of history, you can't bring it back by building a replica. The amphitheater is part of the fabric of Chautauqua- to destroy that fabric by demolishing the amp and building a replica would be sacrilege. Thanks for the opportunity to comment!

The loss of the back porch would be a real tragedy. Also, an orchestra pit?! The orchestra should be front and center!

this would be a foolish decision...people come to Chautauqua because of the rich history and architecture. Repair and enhance..do not tear it down!!! It would be like tearing the White House down!
