All thru history "someone" wants to "improve " something that has been here gor a ling time, and they end up ruining a tradition , a historical site . And its ALWAYS about money when you come down to it !! And here we are again.......doing it to the Amp. which ghost as been here for a hundred years , and had jyst about every famous player thats ever lived .EVEN Presidents ! But theres always some that think change is good no matter WHAT gets destroyed! ! It absolutely disgusts me !! What do they think Chautauqua Institute is all about........the Amp. is one of the best parts ABOUT coming here!! Take that away and you might as well go anywhere from now on !! Next it'll be the hotel...then the lake front...then the Bell Tower....then why not permanent docks and private beaches...etc etc !! Mark my words...you start here and it will not end ! Just like "Urban Renewal !"

I have many fond memories performing at the Amp and watching performances there. One of the charms about the Amp is that it is old. It is like walking back in time. Why do we need all the lastest gadgits? This is a place you can go and slow down and relaxe.

I love the feel of Chautauqua and believe the Amp is the essence of the community. Every performance I attended is fondly and vividly remembered. I've been to many other performance centers but the Amp ranks right up at the top for it's community atmosphere. Please do not allow the Amp to be demolished.

Please save the Chautauqua Institution Amphitheater. It is an historic structure. If the integrity of the structure is sound and safe my opinion is that it should not be changed. I grew up in western NY. Chautauqua Institution was a big part of my life over the years that I lived there. Please do everything to preserve this structure including have it placed on the National Historic Preservation endangered list. I live in the Charleston, SC area and I am so happy that Drayton Hall has been preserved for now and future generations. My heart is much more attached to Chautauqua's Amphitheater because of attending lectures, listening to concerts, graduation from high school, my own and my children's, and from worshiping there with the thousands of other people. I have never experienced anything like it since I moved away. I miss the Institution like an old friend.

I'm very disappointed in the news that the Institution is planning on demolishing the Amp. I'm an architecture and historic preservation, and to demolish the central core of the institution would be to damage over 100 years of history. Please, listen to the residents, the visitors, and members of the community when we say that this plan is a disaster.

Over the years we have spent many nights in the current theater and loved the charm and history of it. Replacing it would just ruin the enitre experience.
