This is sad. The amp is a part of history. I loved performing there every year for choir when a I was in high school. I understand updating but does most of it really need demolished? Once it is done there is no turning back and a piece of history will be gone!

I'm a proponent of "measure twice, cut once". Once the amp is demolished there is no going back to save a piece of history. Let's take a respectful look at the preservation plans instead pushing current plan through in order to meet the Board's time table for the next big project and making many Chautauquans feel like there has been a bait and switch.

The demolition of the Chautauqua Amphitheater would be the destuction of one the most iconic pieces of architecture in the County. We Americans have a very bad habit of getting rid of old things instead of taking care of them as the caretakers of the past. The Amphitheater MUST BE preserved, NOT replicated!
