My Mom Carolyn Seymour wrote the grant that saved the Amphitheater's roof in the 1970s. You don't keep a building alive by recreating it Disneyland style. The US has the architects and builders who can care for it and renovate in place if we spend the time to locate them.

This amphitheatre is historic for our country, not just New Yorkers! I am a member of a Chautauqua started book club that began in 1898 and is in Wilmington, Ohio!

This historic building should be preserved. There is unsound fiscal reasoning behind destroying such a historic landmark and replacing it with an expensive replica.

I have played many concerts in the amphitheater it would be a shame to replace it some of my favorite memories are the times I spent in Chautauqua institution!

It's special and unique as us. Sure.. There are limitations but older and informed people have managed to get to lectures, concerts etc since the beginning. There's an ulterior motive going on among some enterprising folk.. New Chautauquans for the most part who aren't very concerned with buildings with a "past "!!

Why tear it down if it can be saved for a fraction of the cost of replacement? A new one can never replicate the sensation of stepping back into history!

I think renovation falls in line with the environmental mantra of reduce, reuse & recycle as well as preserving an historic landmark.
