Why demolish such a beautiful piece of history. It screams Chautauqua!

The demolition of the amphitheater is an ill conceived idea that will change the complexion of Chautauqua and not in a good way. Preservation is the only way that makes common sense. The money saved can be spent in a much more prudent fashion.

The amphitheater should be preserved if only in a linited capacity for traditional spring and summer events such as lectures, church services, orchestra and ballet perfomances. I feel the consideration for an "addition to" state of the art, year 'round venue in proximity of the instituion would not only serve the institution but also expand to and benefit the entire western New York region without losing the charm, the mystique and the magic of "The Chautauqua Experience". I think many people believe it's an "either, or" scenario and it's not. In reference to an old adage; Yes the bathwater needs to be refreshed, but do you do it at the risk of losing baby?

It is totally unnecessary and quite possibly more expensive to demolish and replace the AMP.Surely a plan can be developed to preserve the AMP and all it signifies.

Why on earth replace the Amp with a replica when we have the authentic?! Any married ladies out there prefer a replica of your wedding/engagement ring to your authentic?! Come on now, Chautauqua is full of very intelligent people...I don understand why this is even a debate! FDR, Susan B. Anthony, Bobby Kennedy, Thurgood Marshall, Bill & Hillary Clinton, Ella Fitzgerald, Ameila Earhart among many other walked that stage..we will be regarded as complete idiots to future generations if we demolish such a significant historic landmark.."geez, they had the original, but they needed more comfort"..what an awful reason!

I was born in Jamestown, NY and lived in Chautauqua County until I was 13 years old. I have property there at this time. I have lived on the grounds and have roller skated on the stage of the amp during my childhood. What fun. Also have been to many concerts there. I love the amp - hope we can save it.

The amp is the focal point of the Chautauquau Institution. It is an architectural and acoustical wonder and the jewel of the grounds.. Don't demolish an important part of Chautauqua's history!!!

I worked at The Boys and Girls Clubs in 1969 and 1970 and have such found memories of attending several events at the Ampitheater. It IS Chautauqua Institution and it would be such a loss to the community and to the history of this one of a kind place. Preserve it, please.
