As my grandson said....It would not be an amphitheater if ut was enclosed. New sound and lighting systems,yes. But please leave it an open air space as it feels closer to nature that way.

Focus on the back of the house. The spiritual heart of the Institution is the front of the house. Enlarging it will risk ruining fine acoustics and adds too few seats for enormous cost.

I fell Mr. Becker is going to do whatever he wants and all this discussion will mean nothing in the end He has made up his mind for whatever reason to tear the Amp down & start over must be he thinks the founder knew nothing of why Chautauqua was started

The Amp is a central gathering place. A historical gathering place. To destroy the Amp is to destroy the essence of Chautauqua. Getting rid of The Amp at Chautauqua because it needs a little TLC is like Rome getting rid of the Coleseum. Time to show the world the U.S. appreciates history too and build and repair the Amp.

I was fortunate enough to participate in the performance of Verdi's Requiem in 2008. It is a cherished memory. The Amp must be saved. Real progress would mean rethinking this wrongheaded plan.

It would be so sad if the amp was demolished. Please do not destroy this piece of history. I original feel of this amphitheater is what makes it so special.
